If you haven’t heard of Octonauts – google it now! love, love, love the series! It’s one of those fun, educational, cute cartoons – I highly recommend it!
They travel in their Octopod (a moving underwater station) and help different sea creatures in trouble by various Gups (underwater vehicles inspired by different sea animals)
I’m actually learning heaps myself from it – all those amazing sea creatures mashaAllah. Did you know what Allah created this fish that’s effectively a ‘toothbrush’ to a certain species of sharks? And that there’s these reef fishes called Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa’s?
And when I talk about sharks, it’s like “Which shark are you talking about, Umi? Because there’s lemon sharks, whale shark – ”
Ok fine kiddo. I gave birth to you (Bruised Mom’s ego!!:p)
They were watching what seemed like the millionth and thirty third rewind of the episodes, and we had Duplo was strewn all over the floor. Hmm.. Duplo? Octonauts? A-ha! – Why not combine the two!!! (I’m creative like that :p)
So we started to build Gups.
Duplo Octonauts & Gups
Yahyaa came up with his version of the gup-H:
Yousuf has this thing with the Gup-X, so I had no doubt this was what he’d build:
And together we built an Octopod!:)
Build, Create & Play!
If I had to choose only one toy for my kids (aged 2-5) it’d have to be Duplo. It’s amazing to see the creative thinking going on through constructing their own ideas. It’s perfect for developing fine motor skills, hand eye-coordination and social skills (since we usually play together).
There’s also that element of imagination as we play pretend which gives kids a chance to develop speech and play out real life situations such as daily errands, learning to share, compromise, facing fears and so much more.
Sky’s the limit when it comes to building with Duplo and I am always looking for fun, new and creative ways to play with Duplo – So inspire me and tell me how your kids play with Duplo!
